Friday Letter - 25th April 2024

Dear Parents,

We have had a really exciting week at Benhall this week. The children and staff are really enjoying the new learning topics. Our fabulous year 2's have been working on their mapping skills and have produced some beautiful nature studies of the Scottish Thistle. Some of our year 2 boys have stepped up as excellent role models, offering to coach year 1 footballers at lunchtime. We are so proud of you year 2.

Year 1 were blown away when Mary Anning travelled in time to visit Green and Blue Class. She brought her Palaeontology basket with her and listened with interest as the children recalled what a Palaeontologist does from their learning so far. They kept her on her toes by asking so many interesting questions. Great job year 1.

Reception have continued their campaign to be Reception Rescuers as they have discovered ways to reduce plastic use in their everyday life. If you live in the roads around Benhall, look out for their posters and leaflets. They are even planning to write to the Prime Minister. What a fabulous group of Purple Learners.

I really enjoyed meeting with the School Council this week. One of our Chairs Of Governor was able to meet with us too. We were both impressed with how committed they are. Rufus had a wonderful idea to raise money to support the World's sea creatures. Watch this space for more info!

Year Group in Focus - Year 2

So far this term, there has been a buzz in year two with so much learning going on! The children have been enjoying finding out about the countries in the UK and have been creating some brilliant maps! Additionally, we have been exploring patterns in art. This week the children were inspired by Andy Goldsworthy and created some beautiful transient artwork in forest school. Finally, we were very excited when they found out their end of year performance. We are so excited to get started!

Purple Learning

The children and staff at Benhall have really been embracing putting in effort to all they do. There has been so much superb learning from Reception creating beautiful under the sea collages, to Year 1 writing leaflets about Mary Anning and Year 2 wowing in their PE lessons. The staff continue to talk purple learning with the children and it is wonderful to hear so may children giving feedback to their friends.

Lunchtimes

Although the sun keeps making the odd appearance, please can we remind you that every child still needs a coat in school. There have been times when it is chillier or rain begins and they are without a coat. We only have wet play when the rain is heavy as we think it is important for children to have fresh air at lunchtimes

School Council

The School Council have met a couple of times since the new team was announced and have shared ideas about what they would like to do to help the school. We have planned to meet with Miss Morris to see what jobs she has for the team and for her to listen to what ideas we have.

Clubs in summer term

We have had a couple of queries about where to collect children from. Here is the list.

Photography - Monday, 6 sessions 10th, 17th, 24^th June, 1st, 8th, 15^th July. Pick up from main door at 4.00pm.

Gymnastics - Tuesday, 10 sessions from 16th April. Pick up from main door at 3.50pm

Tennis - Tuesday, 10 sessions from 16th April. Pick up from playground at 4.00pm

Football - Wednesday 10 sessions from 17th April. Pick up from ?playground at 4.05pm approx.

Street Dance - Thursday 10 sessions from 18th. Pick up from the main door at 3.45pm

Multiskills - Thursday 10 sessions from 18th April. Pick up from playground at 4.00pm

Athletics - Friday 5 sessions from 19th April & last session is 17th May. Pick up from playground at 4.00pm

For all clubs except photography children can come in school PE kit for the day. Football shirts and football boots can be brought to school to change into for the club - not worn all day.

What a great start to wearing school PE kit on PE days – thank you parents for your help with this.

PE Kit reminder:

Navy blue shorts or tracksuit bottoms
Plain white or purple T-shirt
Navy blue hoody or sweatshirt
Trainers

If your child has joined an after school sports club they can wear their school PE Kit on club days too (no football strips).
