 Friday Letter  - 22nd March 2024

Dear Parents,

This week has whizzed by, and we are all ready for the holiday.  The children and staff have given their all this week to the learning that is happening in the classroom.  

Reception have been learning about the Easter story, year 1 have been authors and chefs and year 2 have been historians - leading their own learning about the Titanic. 

A huge thank you to Katy Ferguson for organising and leading a fabulous evening of felting on Wednesday evening.  It was an enjoyable evening for everyone.

Pre-School News

This week in Pre-School we introduced our theme of Easter, the children watched information on the interactive board on why we celebrate Easter and then we discussed in our groups.  The children have created hand print chick cards, collaged eggs, had a role play Egg shop with a cafe and also enjoyed egg and spoon races and lots of outdoor play which included an Easter Egg hunt.

Our Little Wandle letter sound this week was 'z'.

We have a Happy Birthday to Sam and to Rose during the Easter Holidays.

The Team at Benhall Pre-School wish you all a Happy Easter and look forward to seeing you all when Pre-School re-opens on Monday 8th April.

Year Group in Focus - Year 2

WOW! WOW! WOW! What a fabulous week of learning in year 2. We have been finding out about the Titanic this week, and our amazing historians have really enjoyed it. We have been making creative posters and wonderful timelines all about the disaster. Ask year 2 for some facts and they will be over the moon to tell you all about it. Did you know that there were 36,000 apples on the Titanic? Did you know that first-class passengers had a swimming pool on the ship?

Congratulations Jax

We are thrilled to tell you about the safe arrival Lyra Aida at the end of last week. As you can see, Jax is delighted that she is here.  Jax you are going to be a lovely big brother to Lyra.  

Congratulations to the whole family. 

 

Purple Learning

Last week Reception were in charge of sharing celebrations in assembly and we had lots of fun joining in. It has come to the end of the term and our focus ‘I can celebrate others..’ has been absolutely fabulous to focus on. The children are so natural in celebrating their friends and it has been a delight to learn new celebrations for our assembly. You may like to ask your child to show you some of the school celebrations that we do. Next term our focus will be ‘Effort is the key’.

Lunchtimes

Our lunchtime team had some extra training this week and have learnt more about how to keep children safe, how to engage with them in play and the team have also come up with some superb new initiatives. We will now be having colouring and drawing on a Friday and this has already gone down an absolute storm . Fingers crossed it isn’t too much longer until we can unlock the gate and have the field open. 😊

School Council

A huge thank you to our School Council members: Thea, Ben, Clara, Thomas, Bea, Toby, Ethan, Elizabeth, Walker, Artemis, Thea and Freddie. They have been an absolute joy of a team, have led so many things in school and have raised money for school. You are all wonderful role models in our school. 😊 We enjoyed biscuits and drinks at our final meeting. Next term, classes will be voting for the Summer School Council team and this will be announced in the first Friday assembly of Term 5.

Get Set Competition

Calling all children aged 5-11! We want to see how the next generation of learners would design a sustainable school that would fit into a cleaner, greener, healthier future.

The winning pupils will secure funding through the British Gas Positive Energy Grants to help their school become more sustainable and accessible!

In addition to 1 x school receiving £15,000 and 4 x schools receiving £2,500, they will also receive expert advice from British Gas on how to make their school more energy efficient, as well as advice from ParalympicsGB on how to make it more accessible to everyone.

We will add everything you need to enter to Tapestry.

Submit your entries by March 28th to be in with a chance of winning!

Sports Day - Wednesday 5th June

Please save the date and time, so you can join in the fun with your child's year group. 

9.00 - 10.30 – Reception

10.40 – 12.00 – Year 2

1.15 – 2.45 – Year 1

Children arriving late into School in the mornings.

We have noticed an increase in children arriving late into school in the morning.

Lateness not only disrupts the lesson in progress but can have an adverse effect on your child’s education.  If your child misses the initial part of the lesson they often struggle to grasp the new concept being taught.

Children who arrive late for school are often upset and embarrassed by joining a lesson in progress and find it difficult to contribute.

Children should arrive at 8.45am for starting their learning at 8.50am.  We will be monitoring and contacting parents if we have a concern.

What a great start to wearing school PE kit on PE days – thank you parents for your help with this.

PE Kit reminder:

  • Navy blue shorts or tracksuit bottoms
  • Plain white or purple T-shirt
  • Navy blue hoody or sweatshirt
  • Trainers

If your child has joined an after school sports club they can wear their school PE Kit on club days too (no football strips).
