Friday Letter - 5th July 2024

Dear Parents,

What an incredibly busy week in school this week, with so much going on in every year group. The year 2's are busy fine-tuning their performance ready for next week. Everyone you are in for such a treat, I cannot wait to see it in full. Year 1 have completed their learning about space and have shown us just what brilliant purple learners they are. If you see them ask them what they know? - you will be amazed.

Our incredible Reception team planned such a treat for our end-of-year trip to Weston Super Mare and I was so pleased to join them. The weather was so kind to us, although a little windy. The children played on the beach, enjoying boules, scratch, digging, becoming mermaids and towel sledges - what fun! The children were always ready, respectful and safe and I was so proud of them all. Walker shared with me just before we were leaving that he thought the whole-of- reception should be purple learners this week and I think he is absolutely right!

Year Group in Focus - Year 2

Another busy week for our wonderful year 2s this week. We have been putting the finishing touches on our performance and we are all so excited to be performing in front of our friends and family next week! This term has flown by, we can't believe that it is nearly the end of their time at Benhall and we have started to reflect on all our brilliant Benhall memories. Finally, we have been celebrating all the exciting sporting events that are taking place this summer.

Purple Learning

Our Year 1 children have been wowing us this term with their home learning in Computing. We have been so pleased to see so many children being awarded their certificates in our Friday celebration assembly – what superb efforts with your home learning. Well done 😊

Lunchtimes

As the weather is becoming increasingly warmer (finally!) we will make daily decisions on whether packed lunches will eat inside or outside. Some days it may just be a little too hot. Please can we remind you that it is so important your child has a water bottle in school and a summer hat. These need to be labelled clearly with your child’s name. We have decided that on hotter days, children will only be able to access the field if they have a summer hat in school, if not then they will have access to the playground. Thank you for your help and support

School Council – ‘Save the ocean!’ day

Last week, School Council led an assembly all about ‘Save the Ocean’ day and we could not be prouder of the team. They had clear voices, answered questions and continued to work hard to plan and prep for the day. Please read Tapestry from last week when we have explained what we will be doing with any loom bands that the children may want to recycle. Please spread the word about the following details:

When: Friday 12^th July

What: School Council are raising money to make our oceans cleaner and safer. We will be offering face paint from 8.15am-8.45am in Red room playground.

Children can bring a donation to the classroom door which will enable them to go into a ‘recycling’ lucky dip box during the day and allow them to wear blue to school that day.

From 2.45pm - there will be a cake sale on the main playground – Please, please send donations to the school office (no nuts!). The more cakes we have, the more money we can raise for our chosen charity 😊. If your child attends a club after school on a Friday, please send in a lunchbox (named) with a 50p donation and they will be able to choose a cake before the club to take home with them. Mrs Skelton and the ASC team will take the children to choose a cake from the stall for a snack, so please send the children in with 50p if you can.

PTA News

The PTA AGM will be held on Tuesday 16th July.

Key items:

- stand down of the 23-24 committee

- ⁠elect committee for 24-25 academic year

- ⁠set key dates for 24-25 year

Roles will include:

- chair (essential)

- ⁠vice chair (essential)

- ⁠treasurer (essential)

- ⁠Secretary (essential)

- ⁠class reps (reception invited but likely to follow next term)

There was a suggestion of having more smaller roles so people can commit to running bits without either feeling over committed... possible options:

- ⁠social media

- ⁠fundraising lead

- ⁠autumn events lead

- ⁠Christmas lead (new)

- ⁠Easter events lead (new)

- ⁠summer events lead (new)

- ⁠2nd hand uniform lead (new)

What a great start to wearing school PE kit on PE days – thank you parents for your help with this.
