Dear Parents,
The PTA and I really enjoyed welcoming so many of our new families to a stay and play event on Saturday. Thank you to everyone who gave up their time to set up, pack away, man the uniform sale and serve refreshments.
After a soggy start to the week, our children have thrown themselves into their learning with such enthusiasm.
We had all of our reception children in school together for the first time this week. They enjoyed getting to know each other.
Our year 1 children could certainly use the wild weather this week to think about the impact the weather has. Monday was the perfect opportunity for measuring rainfall!
Year 2 continued finding out more about AA Milne.
School Development Plan Update:
Our quality of education focus this academic year is around how we teach writing in school. We have ambitious aspirations for our young writers.
Writing is a complex skill with so many key components. Your children need to have the gross and fine motor skills to be able to hold and manipulate the pen; spacial awareness and visual motor skills to form their letters correctly; ideas about what they want to write; vocabulary and phonic knowledge.
Following on from the positive impact we have had with Little Wandle, we know that our children have secure phonic knowledge that has opened up the world of reading for our children. Exposure to new vocabulary through reading both during our practising reading sessions and while enjoying dream reads at home is already evident in the ambitious vocabulary children use in their writing.
We know that fidelity to a teaching style has been hugely beneficial in reducing cognitive load in phonics and maths lessons at Benhall and we plan to take this approach with how we teach writing.
Our wonderful PTA are committed to supporting us by funding the whole school training by Jane Considine.
Love from Miss Morris and the team
