Dear Parents,

We have made it to the end of our first term of this academic year and what a busy term it has been.  I am proud to belong to such a wonderful school and would like to make the focus of my section of the newsletter this week the incredible team of adults that I have the pleasure to work alongside.  From the moment your child joins the Benhall Family the team at Pre-School and School nurture them through their journey as purple learners.  Benhall Infant and Pre-School is a place where Just like at home, there is always someone to hold a hand, wipe away tears or simply smile and say well done.  The extra mile the whole team goes to is inspiring and we all hold your children in our hearts and thoughts when planning for each term of fantastic learning opportunities.  I am sure you will join me in expressing huge thanks for everything they do and wish them a restful half-term with their families.

Year 1 would like to thank Caroline who come in on Wednesday as part of our "Communities" PSHE unit. She told us all about her role as Brown Owl as well as showing us some interesting photos and sharing historical facts with us.  Thank you for inspiring us. 

Lunchtimes

Thank you to those of you who have donated things that they no longer need at home. It has been so exciting to watch the lunchtime transformation so far this term. The children are absolutely loving the new dressing up zone and it is a joy to see children singing and dancing (as well as many adults!) to different songs and genres of music. As the weather is becoming much cooler, please can we remind you that every child needs a warm coat and a jumper or cardigan in school, it would be great if we could have them all labelled clearly too. We still have vacancies for pupil supervisors to work at Benhall from 12pm-1.15pm, please spread the word for us. 😊

Completion of Data Breech investigation

Following the data breach at the end of  July 22 linked to the sending out of children’s end of year reports, school has been working with the Data Protection Officer at the local Authority to conduct a thorough investigation and put together a plan to reduce the possibility of sensitive data being shared inadvertently.  The conclusion of the investigation is that in the balance of probability that human error led to the information being shared. 

In light of this isolated incident, we have set out to mitigate incidents of this nature taking place in the future, which the DPO is satisfied reduces the risk of this happening again.  They include:

• School reports to be password protected using the family's password that create at admission to school - Actioned July 22
• Documents to be uploaded to tapestry instead of Scholarpack, which requires the parents to log in with an additional password - Actioned in July 2022
• Tapestry to be used so that in the event of a system error the number of contacts are reduced  - Actioned  July 2022
• A 2-person checking system’ to be in place before the report is uploaded to the child’s journal.
• In order to communicate promptly and effectively with all parents, in the unlikely event of a data breach, the head will be alerted immediately so that they contain the breach.
• Risk assessment completed for all data held at school - Actioned September 2022
• Full staff training has been agreed by the team to ensure all staff are aware of the importance of ‘keeping data safe’. - Term 2 2022

Having taken all the above into consideration the DPO advised the school that this is a conclusion to the data breach and no further action is required to be sent out by them.
