 Friday Letter  - 7th July 2023

Dear Parents,

We can't quite believe how quickly time is going at Benhall.  Our weeks are packed with so many exciting events in addition to all usual provision.  This week our children have been Sportspeople and musicians.

On Tuesday, everyone was thrilled to welcome Alex into school to run African Drumming Workshops for all of our children from pre-school through to year 2.  Everyone really enjoyed the sessions and learnt so much.  Thank you to the PTA for funding this for us.  

On Thursday and Friday our children were part of a multi-schools sports event at Cheltenham Boys College run by Move More.  The children were excellent purple learners and we are all really proud of them.

Library Challenge – from July 15th to September 16th

On Wednesday, Cassie (a librarian) came to present in our assembly all about the new library challenge set for all children in Gloucestershire. To complete the challenges, you have to visit the library and ask for one of the library challenge booklets. This will then explain all you need to know to complete the challenges. Children can then achieve bronze, silver or gold and will be rewarded with certificates, badges, library lanyards and between £10 and 50 escape room voucher as well as being put into a larger prize draw. The children and staff were very excited by Cassie’s assembly and lots of us are raring to get to the library a week on Saturday. Don’t forget if you complete the library challenges then please bring in your certificate so we can share it with the school in Friday Celebration Assembly. Good Luck and Happy Reading 😊

Pre-School Update

In Pre-School this week we have finished off our theme of being mini explorers and recapped on  space, earth, continents, and showing the children England on the map. We have been working hard practicing our graduation. Our leavers visited school on Wednesday afternoon and our new Pre-School children for September visited for a stay and play with their parents. Our Little Wandle letter sounds have been s,a,t. We are looking forward to Teddy Benhall’s picnic next Thursday at 11.30 when everyone is welcome to join us, weather permitting. Year Group in Focus - Reception

Reception have had a most spectacular week. We kicked off our Monday watching the fabulous Year 2 performance of Matilda. What a treat. We then had a smashing time learning how to play the African Drums with Alex on Tuesday. The children took their best Purple Learning skills with them to the Multi Skills festival on Thursday and every single child did Benhall proud. Today we have had an absolute dream day. For filling our pom-pom jar, the children chose to make popcorn and paper aeroplanes and play with their pals! The best ideas always come from the children! They were fabulous scientists, creating, discussing and amending their aeroplanes and sharing tips with their friends on ways to make their planes fly further. To top it off, we added bubbles for the planes to pop mid-air! Thank you Team Reception for being absolutely wonderful.

On Tuesday the whole school had a musical treat, funded by the PTA, of an African drumming workshop. We started off the day with a whole school assembly where Miss Morris and I did a mini performance on the drums with Alex, who was leading the day. Each class, including pre-school, got to go in for their very own session. The sound of music and laughter was heard throughout the day and it was wonderful. Alex was fabulous with the children and adults and made the sessions so engaging and fun. Thank you to the PTA for supporting me in organising this wonderful experience. Benhall Summer Fair Raises £2500 for School!

On Saturday 1st July 2023, our Benhall family came together to enjoy a lovely afternoon in the sunshine.  The PTA committee organised a great event and the atmosphere was one of fun and laughter.  There was something for everyone, a delicious BBQ, a scrumptious selection of cakes, ice-cream and sweets, teddy and bottle tombola, face painting, welly wanging,  coconut shy, hook a duck, plant stall, bouncy castle, beat the goalie, trampolines and bouncy castles.  If that wasn't enough there was also the chance to soak Miss Morris! 

Thank you to the PTA, anyone who made a donation, anyone who baked a cake, anyone who volunteered on a stall and anyone who came along on the day.  These events are not a success without all of you.

Congratulations Joshua

Our fabulous coconut shy champion, Joshua. He knocked three coconuts down each time and when his dad paid for 6 balls he got them all!  Joshua and his family were really pleased that he was crowned champion of the day.

Ice-Cream Sales - Every Friday in Term 6

Icecream and Ice-Lolly sale every Friday main playground £1 and 50p.  Cash ideally, but the card machine will be an option.

Purple Learning Focus

Another week of purple learning has gone by and this week we have been thinking all about perseverance. The children have been superb at having a go at things, taking on challenges and trying more than once. What a busy week of purple learning.. Next week we will be thinking ‘Seeing effort as the key’

PE Kit

What a great start to wearing school PE kit on PE days – thank you parents for your help with this.

PE Kit reminder:

  • Navy blue shorts or tracksuit bottoms
  • Plain white or purple T-shirt
  • Navy blue hoody or sweatshirt
  • Trainers

If your child has joined an after school sports club they can wear their school PE Kit on club days too (no football strips).
