 Friday Letter  - 7th September 2023

Dear Parents,

Welcome back everyone, we are so pleased to see you all and we hope that you had a happy and safe summer.

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new reception and pre-school cohorts to the Benhall family.  Some of you are completely new to school and others are continuing your journey with us.  It has been wonderful to see you all taking advantage of the "back to school weather" in our outdoor areas during your stay and play sessions.  I know the Reception and Pre-School teams have really enjoyed meeting you all.  PTA are looking forward to seeing you on the Saturday the 23rd September 2023.  This will be a great opportunity to get to know the other families in your child's cohort and find out more about the invaluable work our PTA volunteers do to support our school.  Please join us if you can - an invite has been sent out separately.  If you haven't received it please contact the school office for more details.

Our KS1 children have shown us just what purple learning is all about this week, returning to their new classes with such enthusiasm for everything the teaching staff have planned for them.  Our year 2 children are delighted to have an outdoor learning area this year and are certainly taking every opportunity to use it during the course of their day.  The teachers were really pleased to see so many of you at our meet the teacher meetings on Wednesday afternoon.  

We look forward to working with you all in the year ahead.

Pre-School News

Firstly I hope you all had a lovely summer.  Welcome back to those children and families returning to Benhall Pre-School and a very warm welcome to our new children and their families.  Thank you for joining us this week on more stay and play visits, it has been great getting to know the children and you all.  We look forward to the children starting their part time sessions next week and on 18th September the children can attend their normal hours.  Have a pleasant weekend.

Year Group in Focus Year 2

What a wonderful start to the year with our brilliant year 2s! They have welcomed challenge and approached the new year with positivity and a big smile. We have been making 3D portraits and making fact files about ourselves. It has been brilliant learning all about each other. Additionally, in maths we have been recognising numbers to 100 and practicing our number bonds. Some children even worked together to make number lines that were the length of the school!

PTA News and Diary Dates

Thank you to all of our PTA volunteers that helped to set up and run two successful Preloved Uniform Sales over the summer.  If you have any preloved uniform that you wish to donate for future sales please drop it into the office.  Preloved uniform will be available to buy at the PTA event for Recpetion and Pre-School families on the 23/9/23.

Our wonderful PTA committee are stepping down at the AGM in October and the PTA can only continue if we can appoint a new committee.  The funds raised by the PTA are such a vital part of what we can offer the children at Benhall, so please consider standing for one of the committee roles.  Remember it is possible to share the role with someone else.

Finally, a huge thank you to the Renewals and Servicing Team at Endsleigh Insurance who volunteered their time to support us with the maintenance of our outside areas.  We really appreciate them choosing us for there volunteering day.

Purple Learning Focus

Purple Learning has already taken off in school and even on our first day back the school was absolutely buzzing with children who were achieving in different areas of the curriculum through using their purple learner skills. This year to help embed the purple learner skills we have decided that there will be a termly focus, we will always talk and encourage the range of purple learner skills but hope that we can primarily focus on one per term, so children get a consolidated understanding of specific skills. This term our purple learning focus is embracing challenges which the children and staff have done fantastically this week. If your child has embraced a challenge outside of school then please email photos and comments to Miss Bilton who will share them on the school purple learner board and in purple learning assembly 😊

Lunchtimes at Benhall

We would like to welcome the wonderful Mrs Smiley and lovely Mrs Semken to the lunchtime team. They have already settled in brilliantly and have shown so much care towards our children at lunchtimes. Just a reminder that children will need hats in the warm weather and a water bottle (both named please!) A polite request if you have any dressing up, colouring pens, books or toy cars/vehicles that are no longer used in your home, please bring to the office and ask for it to be given to Miss Bilton and Mrs Smurthawite. We would love to add to our resource bank at lunchtimes. 😊

School Council at Benhall

Each class will be voting for the new school council team next week and we hope to announce the new team in our Friday Celebration Assembly. Children will be asked to stand and present to their class family why they believe they could be a valuable member of the team. The children will listen to the proposals and then vote for one boy and one girl from each class, Reception children will join the team after the Christmas holidays. If you think that one of your child’s dreams is to be on School Council then please let a member of the class team know. Miss Bilton is very excited to work with another super team to help improve Benhall. 😊

What a great start to wearing school PE kit on PE days – thank you parents for your help with this.

PE Kit reminder:

  • Navy blue shorts or tracksuit bottoms
  • Plain white or purple T-shirt
  • Navy blue hoody or sweatshirt
  • Trainers

If your child has joined an after school sports club they can wear their school PE Kit on club days too (no football strips).
