Year Group in Focus - Year 2

Year 2 have been loving learning all about Beatrix Potter this term! This week the children amazed us with their fabulous story writing inspired by Beatrix Potter by creating their own Peter Rabbit stories. On Wednesday, year 2 came together and discovered that Beatrix Potter was alive during the Victorian times. Luckily, we were given a box full of Victorian artefacts. Year 2 demonstrated that they were amazing historians and used the artefacts to find out more about Beatrix Potter's kitchen, and how the Victorian times were different from life today.

Purple Learning Focus

Parents, we would love to hear from you! Have you had to embrace a tricky challenge? Do you have tips on how to overcome things that are quite difficult? We would appreciate it if you could send in your stories (and pictures if possible!) to Miss Bilton so that we can share that our parents and carers embrace challenges too! It might be that you had to chop down a tall tree, it could be that you had to complete lots of counting at work or it might be that you have ran a marathon or completed a big swim! We would love to add these to our purple learner board in school so please email rebeccabilton@benhall.gloucs.sch.uk 

Lunchtimes at Benhall

This week Miss Bilton met individually with our wonderful lunchtime teachers to catch up with what is going well and how we could make lunchtimes smoother. The team are wowed at how well our Reception children have come into lunchtimes, been able to collect their cutlery and practise sitting and socialising whilst eating the yummy lunches. KS1 children have been a superb help on the playground, checking our younger children are ok and making sure everybody has someone to play with. To make lunchtimes easier for the children we would like to ask:

• Children practise cutting their food with a knife and fork
• Children have a go at filling up their own water bottles at home
• You chat with your child about school rules and knowing how to be ready in the lunch line
• Discuss with your child what respect means and how we can show this at lunchtimes
• Practise washing hands thoroughly

We will be holding an assembly all about lunchtimes to remind the children again in the next couple of weeks. A big thank you for your help.
