Friday Letter - 24th November 2023

Dear Parents,

We have had another super week this week at Benhall. The children and staff blow us away every single day with their enthusiasm for learning. The Christmas season has arrived as we prepare for our Christmas Performances and it is so lovely to hear our children singing new and traditional songs around school.

Thank you to Mrs Stephens who led learning in forest school this week. She is a superhero of our school, planning amazing learning opportunities that support the curriculum in group every year.

Year 1 have enjoyed a wonderfully planned day learning about Diwali today. Thank you to Miss Boakes and Miss Pates for co-ordinating this and to the year 1 and 2 teams for their enthusiasm.

Pre-School News

This week in Pre-School we continued with our theme of ‘Cultural Celebrations and Festivals, learning about Eid, Hanukkah and Thanksgiving. We watched information on the interactive board and also looked at different books. The children decorated a crescent moon for Eid, collaged a light candelabra for Hanukkah and created Thanksgiving leaves with their own individual thought. On Thursday at lunch time we had a banquet style lunch which everyone enjoyed. In the hall this week we enjoyed playing the bean bag game, then ending our session with some meditation music. Our Little Wandle Letters & Sound this week has been ‘g.’ We have continued to practice our Nativity learning the different songs. Next week our theme changes to a week of exploring different stories of ‘Julia Donaldson.’ Have a lovely weekend, The Pre-School Team.

Year Group in Focus

This week our fabulous Scientists and Historians have been using all of their purple learning skills to answer our big questions.

This week, our Scientists are thinking about the properties of materials and how to classify materials by their material and or property. We are nearly ready to present our findings to Guy Fawkes.

Our Historians have been retelling the story of the Gunpowder Plot in a variety of ways - Comic Strips, Puppet Shows and in small world.

We have really enjoyed our involvement in the Diwali day today too.

Purple Learning

Last week, the prospective parents who visited our school family were blown away at the children and staff. There were so many positive comments about how our children were engaged, embracing challenges, independent, showing resilience, naturally celebrating friends and chatting with respect and enthusiasm. This shows people learning at its best – well done everyone!

Lunchtimes

Just a polite reminder that all children should have a water bottle and this should be clearly labelled. As well as this, the weather is becoming much chillier so please do make sure children bring a coat to school. Thank you!

School Council

A HUGE well done to Jacob, Lexi, Ralf, Charlotte, Pia, Isaac, Arlo and Emily who planned and delivered a fantastic ‘Crazy Colour Day’. We had so much fun wearing our colours, completing the whole school rainbow conga and dancing in the hall – this was all down to the school council team – well done! Next on our list is to plan things for Christmas dinner and party day so keep checking the weekly letter for updates. ??
