Friday Letter - 19th January 2024

Dear Parents,

Wow, it has been another busy week at Benhall Infant and Pre-School this week and all of the children are enjoying their new learning. During a learning walk on Wednesday morning, the children discussed their learning sequences with me and are able to articulate with confidence how they are linking what they already know with new learning. The new "answering our big question" boards in our key stage one classes are filled with all the knowledge and skills they are acquiring this term and being used by the children as a memory prompt.

Year Group in Focus - Year 1

The year 1 team are really proud of our Purple Learners in Green and Blue Classes as the children are showing us just how effectively they learn in provision with a growing level of independence. They shared their work with the whole school this morning. Everyone was blown away with their knowledge of mammals, birds and fish in addition to their knowledge about the countries of the UK. Well done Year 1, you are fabulous Purple Learners.

Traffic Concerns

A near-miss traffic accident outside school just before Christmas has triggered an investigation by the Council along Robert Burns Avenue to look at options for traffic management. By way of informing this, Benhall Residents' Association are conducting a short survey to gain information and views. Purple Learning

Our main focus this term is ‘Learning from feedback’, this is something the whole of the Benhall family works on – both children and adults. This term, during Wednesday purple learning assemblies we will be hearing about how our staff at Benhall are purple learners. We have started to create our purple learning gallery and are going to be hearing and seeing how Mrs Aitken made a human pyramid with family and friends and how Mrs Spence read 13,024 pages in 2023! Wow, we have such incredible role models in our team .

Lunchtimes

The weather has been pretty chilly recently so please make sure your child brings a coat to school every day, even when the sun is shining it can still feel cold. Just a reminder if you are having a new year declutter, we would welcome any dressing up. Please drop in to the office and ask for it to be given to Miss Bilton or Mrs Smurthwaite.

School Council

This week our newly elected school council met for the first time on Thursday morning. We all introduced ourselves and said our names and which class we were in. We talked about how important it is not to fiddle with our badges as we do not want to lose them. We have decided to invite Miss Morris next week to a meeting to ask her about something we would like to plan. As well as this Miss Bilton showed us where the school council display was and we had a photo of the team so we can add it to the board. It was a fab meeting and we were excited to have it in the staff meeting on the chairs with cushion.
