Friday Letter - 4th October 2024

Dear Parents,

It has been a really busy week at Benhall this week, as always!

The children are beginning to show signs of end of term tiredness, and we still have 3 weeks to go in this very long term. We will continue to inspire joy in learning as the children build on their knowledge to answer the big question. When tiredness sets in, so does the amount of illness. Please keep your children at home for 48 hours following the end of a tummy bug and if they have a temperature.

We are looking forward to seeing you all at parents' evening next week.

Arriving and Leaving School

You may have noticed an increased police presence at the top of Robert Burns Avenue following the road rage incident on Monday. While we are not expecting the car involved to return, it was felt, given the increase in accidents and near misses on the roads around school, that a monitoring exercise would be useful.

Please can we remind all parents to adhere to the highway code and be respectful of local residents.

Parents Evening

Thank you for bearing with us regarding the new booking system early teething problems. Nearly all families have now booked a slot. If you still need to book a slot, the system is open until Sunday evening.

On the day, please enter school via the main entrance. Parking will not be available on the school site. Year 2 books will be in lab, blue class books will be in the workshop, reception and green class books will be in the DT food prep area. The teachers will come and find you when they are ready for the appointment.

Purple Learning

We would like to give a special shout out to Louie in Indigo Class this week, who has been full of wonderful questions at home. Louie has been curious to know why we brush our teeth in the morning and at night. He has been curious to know why we brush our teeth first thing after not eating for so long. As well as this, Louis has been curious to find out the difference between tornadoes and hurricanes. What an incredible purple learner. Please email Miss Bilton if your child has shared curiosity at home so we can share in our assemblies.

School Council

This week our amazing team started litter picking, they plan to do this every Tuesday at lunchtime with Mr Newman. They were very surprised to see so much litter on our school grounds, we think sometimes it may blow out of the bins but please can we remind you to use our litter bins on site if you have rubbish. It was great to see the team out, being busy, wearing their hi viz jackets showing what superb role models they are at Benhall Infant School. School Council will be meeting next week to organise our ‘Break the rules’ day which will be on Thursday 24^th October. Each class has had a meeting led by the two school council members to share ideas about what we may do on this day…face paint, biscuits and wearing pjs are on some of the class ideas so we will organise and explain all next week. Well done for a fantastic week School Council 😊

PTA Disco

The school disco will be on Thursday 17th October. There are enough tickets for everyone. Timings for the disco are:
4:00-4:45 Reception
5:00-5:45 Year 1
6:00-6:45 Year 2

Please pay £3 in cash on the door when you bring your child to the disco.

Benhall PTA Scarecrow Trail

Date: 26th October

Time: 12-3pm

We are so excited for the first Benhall Scarecrow Trail, happening from 12pm on Saturday 26th October.

🍁Get your trail maps from Benhall Infant School on the day. Follow the trail of scarecrows and solve the clues along the way.

🍁£2 per child, with a prize at the end.

🍁There will be:

- Refreshments

- Hot drinks

- Sweet stall

- Crafts

🍁We still have spaces for 6 sponsors at £150 per scarecrow. If you’re interested in sponsorship or know a local business who might be interested, please speak to your class PTA rep.

🍁We’re also looking for any volunteers who would like to make a ‘Heroes and Villains’ themed scarecrow to be included in the trail. If you would like to help please speak to your class PTA rep or email pta@benhall.gloucs.sch.uk

Forest School in the Autumn Term

We are thrilled that Mrs Stephens will be leading forest school sessions for us again this year. Children will wear their uniform under the waterproofs provided by the school.

A huge thank you to the PTA who support us with purchasing our new waterproofs this year.

Please make sure that your child wears trousers as part of their uniform on Forest School Days which are as follows -

Reception - Thursday (every other week starting from 4/10/24)
Year 1 - Tuesday (every other week starting from 17/9/24)
Year 2 - Wednesday (every other week starting from 18/9/24)
