 Friday Letter  - 17th January 2025

Dear Parents,

Goodness me, we have been very busy "Inspiring Joy" this week! The team have produced some wonderful provocations for the children to learn from. There have been owl visits, animal classifications, music with teddies and some wonderful artwork.  

Behind the scenes, we continue to work through the priorities on the school development plan.  Mrs Spence is using her release time as acting Deputy Head, to look at how we can use our new assessment tracker Insight to analyse the data that we collect.  This information will then be used during the pupil progress meetings SLT have with class teachers.  Following these meetings in February, we will be able to discuss any gaps in your children's learning at parents' evening so that we can suggest ways we can work together to close these gaps.

Mrs Spence and I will be working closely with Mrs Fitch and Mrs Whale to plan an effective transition for year 2 to St Marks.  Miss Everett has already begun planning transition for anyone who might need more support during this process and beyond.  

We have had a number of prospective families visit our school over the last two weeks as they made their final decisions around which school they would like their child to attend next year.  The feedback has been so positive including:

  • "There is such a lovely feeling." 
  • "Wow, the children are so confident when they talk about what they have learnt." 
  • "Did your children create those?"
  • "The staff are so welcoming and proud of their school."

We are very proud of our school and thank all of you for being part of what is so unique and special about Benhall.

Pre-School News

We have been having a lovely time in Pre-School this term and have enjoyed getting to know our new children and their families. All the children have done great these past two weeks and have been a great addition to our Pre-School. 

To give you a little insight into our past two weeks, we have created our puppet show, where lots of performances have taken place. We have spent many days outdoors, creating obstacle courses and finding mini beasts. Lastly, the children have been loving musical bumps and having a mini disco. 

We just wanted to say how much we are enjoying looking after your children this year, they make coming to work each day such a joy.

Arriving and Leaving School

Just a reminder to park considerately on Robert Burns Avenue when dropping off and collecting.  There is no access to the school carpark at these times unless you have made a prior arrangement with the school.

Dogs must not enter the school site or be tied to the railings at the entrance.

Purple Learning

 This week "I have the resilience to persevere." has been evident in all classes.  

I have been in class with reception a lot this week and the owl drawings, inspired by Olga Gamynina, have certainly challenged the children to slow down and use their observational skills and mark making.  A special shout to Winnie, Aayansh and Heidi, who showed that if you "try, try, try you can, can, can."

Forest School in the Spring Term

We are thrilled that Mrs Stephens will be leading forest school sessions for us again this year.  Children will wear their uniform under the waterproofs provided by the school.

A huge thank you to the PTA who support us with purchasing our new waterproofs this year.

Please make sure that your child wears trousers as part of their uniform on Forest School Days which are as follows -

  • Reception - Thursday (every other week starting from wb/6/1/25)
  • Year 1 - Tuesday (every other week starting from wb/6/1/25)
  • Year 2 - Wednesday (every other week starting from wb/6/1/25)

PE in the Spring Term

Reception - Wednesday and Friday

Year 1 - Monday and Friday

Year 2 - Tuesday and Thursday

Children should come to school in their PE kit which is-

  • Navy Tracksuit bottoms or shorts
  • White or Purple T-Shirt
  • Navy Jumper
  • Trainers or daps
