 Friday Letter  - 31st January 2025

Dear Parents,

What a fabulous term we are having at Benhall. Every week there has been something (often more than one thing) that we have worked on to continue moving the school forward on its School Development journey. 

We are really excited to be applying for the Arts Mark as we enhance our Art, Design Tech and Performance curriculums.  Mrs Aitken and Miss Pates are taking a lead on this and have recently completed an evaluation of what we do already and what we could add to our curriculum offer to ensure that all children have the opportunity to experience the Arts.  They fed this back to the teachers during a wonderful staff meeting where we also got to be creative and experience sculpting without it being a defined end product!  The process was as important as the outcome.

They are looking forward to repeating this with teaching partners, pre-school and our governors before the end of term.  

They will also be planning a way to share our journey with you all at event later in the year.

Milk

At the moment, we have more milk delivered each week than we use in school.   This is free milk provided by the government for our under 5's.  Milk is offered daily to all of our reception children and many of them enjoy a glass or two!   We also use the milk at the After-school Club.  Any surplus is placed in crates at the front of school.  Please help yourself to this as we don't want it to go to waste. 

Purple Learning

This week our year 2 children have shown resilience to persevere as they continue to work hard to improve their handwriting.  Letter formation is a key part of the end of year assessments in year 2 and as they move on to joining writing, letter formation is so crucial to neat cursive script.  Well done year 2, we are very proud of you.

Save the Date!

Our PTA are an amazing bunch of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and teachers who give their time to planning events to raise vital funds for our school.  Here are some dates to pop in your diary:

Wednesday 26th February: PTA meeting

A PTA meeting to discuss upcoming events. Next year a number of the PTA are going to be moving on, and we therefore really need new members to help, even just in a very low key way! The PTA organise a large number of events each year including the Summer Fair, Christmas Fair, discos, the Scarecrow Trail etc, and all money made feeds back into pupil activities and resources for the school. We know how busy it is juggling everything but if you’d like to get involved please do come along to this meeting to see what it’s about, the PTA can only continue with people who are able to help! 

Friday 7th March: Party Bingo 

The PTA are organising a fun bingo party for the school. Tickets will be available to purchase soon. Timings for the bingo will be: 

3:15-4:00 Reception

4:15-5:00 Year 1

5:15-6:00 Year 2

More details to follow. If you are able to help as an adult volunteer for any of the above times then please let your class rep know.

PE in the Spring Term

Reception - Wednesday and Friday

Year 1 - Monday and Friday

Year 2 - Tuesday and Thursday

Children should come to school in their PE kit which is-

  • Navy Tracksuit bottoms or shorts
  • White or Purple T-Shirt
  • Navy Jumper
  • Trainers or daps

Forest School in the Spring Term

We are thrilled that Mrs Stephens will be leading forest school sessions for us again this year.  Children will wear their uniform under the waterproofs provided by the school.

A huge thank you to the PTA who support us with purchasing our new waterproofs this year.

Please make sure that your child wears trousers as part of their uniform on Forest School Days which are as follows -

  • Reception - Thursday (every other week starting from wb 6/1/25)
  • Year 1 - Tuesday (every other week starting from wb 6/1/25)
  • Year 2 - Wednesday (every other week starting from wb 6/1/25)
