Friday Letter - 17th February 2023

Dear Parents,

We have had a jam packed half term and I couldn't be prouder of what all our Benhall family have achieved over the last 7 weeks. Our teachers continue to ensure that they deliver our ambitious curriculum with enthusiasm and care. Every member of our teaching team goes the extra mile every day to ensure that our children learn in inviting environments, through exciting themes that follow the children's interests, developing your children's love of learning.

Every child has given their all to their learning challenges and extra curricular activities. They speak about their new knowledge with eagerness. They demonstrate a range of new skills with care and precision. Our wonderful purple learners celebrate each other's successes with pride.

The children benefit greatly from the partnership between school and their families and it has been wonderful to see so many of you supporting the children through attending pop-ins, the year 2 SATS meeting, embracing the Dream Read Challenge and helping us to provide more valuable resources and experiences by supporting the PTA in their fundraising efforts; most recently the disco last Friday.

Thank you to everyone who makes our school such a special place. We hope that you have a safe half-term doing all the things you love with those you love.

Pre School News

In Pre-School this week, our theme been Super Heroes and it's been great to see them dressed up throughout the week.

At Pre-School we have our Benhall Behaviour Super Heroes (Captain Kind Hands, Super Sitter, Lieutenant Listener and Victoria Visualiser) all of whom help support the children in understanding the importance of all these PHSE skills. The children have discussed each of our Benhall superheroes; talking about what they means.

The children have talked about character superheroes explaining which one is their favourite and why they like them. We have shared a variety of stories about superheroes. The children have taken part in Spider-Man yoga - exploring lots of different positions and poses, which they all seemed to really enjoy.

In art, the children had a go at painting their interpretation of Superheroes.

We have enjoyed exploring Forest School and in Hall time this week Mrs Tobin and Mrs Gradziel put the children through their paces with a work-out.

In Silver Family we have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Charlie.

We will continue with our theme of Super Heroes and Emotions next term. Pre-School reopens on Monday 27^th February. We hope you all have a lovely half-term.

Year Group In Focus - Year 1

What a busy final week of term we have had. A massive well done to all year 1 who have showed an AMAZING purple learner attitude in their phonics quizzes. Thank you to the parents for all your continued support.

This week we have been applying our subtraction knowledge to word problems and with finding the difference. We have been learning about texture and structure in music and have thoroughly enjoyed finding the beat and rhythm in the 'wellerman' song. Year 1 have also spent the past week investigating the best material for an umbrella, ask them for the results!

A Message from the Headteacher at St Mark's Junior School

Dear Families of Benhall Infants,

You may be aware that St Mark's received a SIAMS inspection (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) at the end of last term.

A SIAMS inspection is an opportunity for Church of England schools to highlight the impact that the school's vision has on the flourishing of the whole school community.

The report gives a real flavour of our provision at St Mark's; something that you mind find interesting to read, particularly if we are soon to welcome your children here.

School Council

It has been such a busy term for School Council, so far the team have:

Completed a litter pick
Led an assembly on school rules and role models
Shown one of our Governors around school
Met with Miss Morris to discuss the job role
Met weekly with Miss Bilton
Shared updates with our class teams and feedback at meetings

We are looking forward next term to completing lots more jobs. Well done Tegan, Oliver, Eva, Henry, Dexter, Carys, Oscar, Florence, Ben, Molly, Ava and Arthur for being such superb role models. 😊

Purple Learning Focus

What a busy term of purple learning in school, the purple learner skills are so embedded here at Benhall and it is wonderful to see our children celebrating others, persevering at challenges, playing games with friends in the Numeracy nook and listening to feedback and acting on it! What a joy to have children with such high level skills at such a young age. That is just a small snapshot of the amazing things that have happened this term and we are excited to continue our purple learning journey after half-term. Over half-term, please encourage your child to persevere, be resilient and celebrate siblings and family members. We always share with the children that purple learning can happen all the time and not just in school. Have a super break everyone. 😊

Thank you to everyone who has supported our super resilient year 2 team, who are continuing to train for their Mini London Marathon in memory of Freddie's Daddy and Jacob's Daddy. They have more than smashed their target of raising £100 for Winston's Wish. Their current total is £1323 and continues to rise!
