Learning Environments

Our passionate and dedicated staff team utilise their skills to enable our children to recognise their true potential and talents. All of our team understand the privilege it is to work with this age group as they begin their journey through education to become independent learners with a thirst for new knowledge and skills. For an Infant School, we are so lucky to have unique areas for our children to learn inside and outside. Indoors, we have The Science Lab, The Workshop, The Numeracy Nook, Our Reading Treehouse and the Children’s Kitchen. Outside, we have specific spaces for every year group, a large field, Wildflower Meadow, Forest School, base camp and a maze. We have also welcomed two furry friends into the Benhall family – Fluffy and Nibbles the gerbils!

Continuous Provision at Benhall

Pre-School and Reception
From day one the children are taught that the learning areas inside and out are theirs and that the resources, equipment and materials must be respected and cared for, just like we care for each other. They have independent access to the resources and use them to take their learning in different directions - individually and collaboratively. Adults support and encourage creativity and team work skilfully, taking learning forward and enhancing it when and where they need to.

Key Stage One
At Benhall, we pride ourselves on our unique curriculum in KS1, which is delivered through Continuous Provision. Our provision in Year 1 and Year 2 is deeply rooted in the successful principles of Early Years practice and it allows our children to build on prior knowledge and practise skills in a range of contexts. Our KS1 children are independent, enthusiastic learners who are able to work individually or collaboratively on enquiries that have followed a rich, teacher led input. In KS1, our children learn both in our indoor and outdoor classrooms. At Benhall, we strongly believe that this type of learning style and environment promotes engaged, life long learners.
