A Day at Benhall Pre-School

Once our children arrive at Pre-School they are greeted by our staff and will then go to one of our 2 classrooms for a soft start, where the adults will explore the current interests of the children and hope to inspire curiosity.

The children will then come to our carpet space for our ‘Little Wandle’ session, focusing solely on the sounds, sound play and nursery rhymes to support wider understanding of phonics.

It is then time for free-flow play, this is where the children will choose where they would like to explore, including either of the two rooms or our outdoor area. The adults will be at the children’s level, playing with the children and finding the learning opportunities during this time.  At the same time, the staff will start a rolling snack, this is to support the children’s independence so they can choose when they would like to have their snack and have the opportunity to follow their play through uninterrupted.

Then it is time for lunch. Our staff sit and eat their lunch with the children promote healthy eating, discuss different foods, and to create a calm social environment for the children to enjoy.

The children then go back into free-flowing play, exploring both the indoor and outdoor environment and the staff will be creating activities to support the children’s interests and expand on these.

Then we have our circle/carpet time. An adult will lead this session and this can include story books, fairy-tale retellings with actions, games, songs, nursery rhymes and more.

Then it is home-time and we get to tell you about all the fun we have had during the day.
